Meet Giuliana Modesti, Pilot

What does Empowering Women in Industry mean to you?

Empowering Women to me means giving women not only equal opportunities but also allow them to discover and develop their unique talents as well as to inspire and motivate others.

How did you get started in your field?

My passion for aviation started when I was a very young girl, as we frequently traveled between countries as a multicultural family. None of my parents or family members worked in aviation but I always had my eyes turned upwards into the skies gazing at airplanes. So after graduating from high school, I knew I wanted to work in this industry. I frequently went to local air shows and applied for various airport and airline jobs without much success. Since I failed all the interviews for the cadet programs in my home country, I eventually decided to move to another country and became a flight attendant instead. Fast forward 7 years later, I had traveled almost the entire world, met some of the most amazing people while making some of the greatest memories, which makes me forever thankful for this crazy and unexpected journey called life. After moving to the US, I decided that it was time to pick up where I left off by finally getting my private pilot license while graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics. I am now about to start my commercial pilot training with the biggest airline in the world, which is something I have always dreamed of. Looking back, I am extremely proud of how far I have come not only as a woman but also as an immigrant in this country, as my goal is to inspire more women in entering STEM related aviation career fields.

What do you love most about your job? What are you most proud of?

My proudest moment and major achievement in life was the day I earned my own wings as a pilot.

What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work?

Always believe in your dreams and pursue your goals. Let your mind and motivation become much stronger than fear, doubt and other peoples voices.
